Cruise Ships Security Inspector
Description
The incumbent of this position serves as a Marine Inspector /Port State Control Officer and Center of Expertise Associate Instructor and provides technical expertise and leadership in the enforcement of international and domestic marine safety, security and environmental protection standards related to foreign passenger ships, also referred to as cruise ships. Serves as a civilian resident Center of Expertise source for continuity of foreign passenger ship examination policies, practices, technical issues, special program support activities, and a primary cruise ship examination representative.
*Participates in and/or leads initial, annual, and periodic control verification examinations of foreign passenger vessels that embark passengers in U.S. ports or visit U.S. ports carrying U.S. Citizens as passengers in accordance with current directives;
*Serves as a SECTOR representative with respect to identifying substandard conditions, evaluating associated corrective action plans, and verifying corrective actions onboard foreign passenger vessels;
*Prepares or assists with preparing documentation related to foreign passenger vessel examinations;
*Assists in the maintenance, administration and instruction of the Foreign Passenger Vessel Control Verification Examination course as an associate instructor to address new regulations and increasingly complex ship designs for at least 45 USCG students per year;
*Maintain programmatic expertise in cruise ship safety and provide advice upon request to management during development of practices, tactics, other procedures;
*Provides or assists in providing exportable training to Coast Guard Sectors which conduct cruise ship examinations;
*Assists in the administration of Coast Guard industry training pertaining to cruise ships;
*Provides on-the-job training on foreign passenger vessel examinations for Coast Guard inspectors from other Coast Guard units;
Qualifications:
GS-12 level: Applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the federal service.
This vacancy is being advertised under delegated examining procedures and is open to all U.S. citizens. The vacancy is being concurrently advertised under merit promotion procedures for status applicants under announcement 09-1973-SE-VK-M. Status applicants are those individuals who are currently serving on a career or career-conditional appointment, individuals who are eligible for reinstatement, or individuals who are applying under the VEOA program.
